How We Work

The short version: we are a local resource and referral site. We don’t install, sell or service generators, we aren’t a contractor, and we are paid by installers. Here is the rest of it.

Power Outage Pros does not install anything.

We are not an electrician, an HVAC company, a propane dealer or a generator dealer. Nothing on this site should be read as us offering to do work at your house.

What we actually do

  • Explain, in plain English, what home backup power costs and what size you need.
  • Give you calculators that run in your own browser and send nothing anywhere.
  • Collect a quote request and pass it to an installer who covers your area.
  • Tell you when a portable is the better answer, and when it is not.

How we are paid, plainly

Installers pay us for quote requests. That is the business. It means our interest is in you sending a request, and you should read everything here with that in mind. It is also why the size calculator tells you when a portable is enough rather than steering everyone toward the expensive answer: a referral from someone who did not need one is worth nothing to anybody.

That is the only way we are paid. There are no affiliate links on this site, no advertising, and nothing sponsored — see the affiliate disclosure, which currently has nothing to disclose.

What we will not do

  • Invent social proof. No reviews, testimonials, star ratings or “homeowners helped” counts, because we do not have real ones.
  • Publish numbers we cannot source. Every figure on this site either links to where it came from or is visibly labeled an estimate.
  • Quote permit fees or code clearances. Those are local, they change, and a stale number costs you money. We say “verify locally” and link to the office.
  • Call ourselves licensed or insured. Those words describe contractors. We are not one.
  • Vouch for an installer. We have not inspected anyone’s work.

What we ask of you

Check licensing and insurance yourself. Get more than one quote, with the same scope in each. Confirm permits and clearances with your own building department. And treat every planning number on this site, ours included, as a starting question rather than an answer.

Ready when you are: get a free install quote.

Common questions

Are you a generator installer?

No. We do not install, sell or service generators and we never will through this site. We are a resource that helps homeowners work out what they need, and connects them with installers who cover their area.

How do you make money?

Two ways. Installers pay us for quote requests from homeowners in their area. And where a portable is the right answer, we link to product categories on Amazon and earn a commission if you buy. You should factor that in when reading anything here.

Do you vet or endorse the installers?

No. We do not inspect their work, verify their insurance or supervise the job. Check licensing and credentials yourself, ask for references, and get more than one quote. Our recommending nobody is deliberate: we are not in a position to vouch.

Why are there no reviews or ratings on this site?

Because we do not have any that are real. Invented reviews and star ratings are everywhere in this category. We would rather have an empty space than a fake one.
