About Power Outage Pros

A plain-English local resource for Gulf Coast homeowners trying to decide about home backup power, built by someone who lives here and loses power like everybody else.

Why this site exists

Brooks Conkle lives on the Gulf Coast and built this site as a plain-English local resource. The generator pages he kept finding were either manufacturer brochures or lead-capture forms dressed up as advice, so this one is organized around the decision a homeowner is actually making.

What is not a placeholder is the editorial approach, because it is visible on every page:

  • Every number is sourced or labeled an estimate. No exceptions, including on the calculators.
  • No invented social proof. There are no reviews, testimonials, ratings or “homeowners helped” counts on this site, because we do not have real ones.
  • Permits and code say “verify locally.” Those answers belong to your building department, not to a website.
  • The calculators tell you when you do not need the expensive option. We get paid on install referrals, which is exactly why that matters.

What we are not

Not a contractor, not an installer, not a dealer. We do not install, sell or service generators. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an authorized dealer for any generator manufacturer. Where manufacturer names appear in our articles it is to describe what installers in this region commonly carry, nothing more. How we work has the full version, including how we are paid.

Where we cover

Mobile, Baldwin County, Pensacola and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. That is a deliberate limit: local pages are only worth reading if the gas utility, the permit office and the weather on them are actually yours. Adding a town means doing that work for the town, so we add them slowly.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, a utility no longer serves an area, or a permit link has moved, we want to know. Every source on this site carries the date we last checked the link, so you can see how fresh it is.

Tell us on the contact page. Corrections are the one kind of message we always answer.
