What to be suspicious of instead

The absence of affiliate links does not make this site neutral. We are paid when you send a quote request, which means our interest is in you sending one. Read everything here with that in mind.

It is also why the size calculator tells you when a portable is enough rather than steering everyone toward the expensive answer. A referral from somebody who did not need one is worth nothing to the installer, nothing to us, and less than nothing to you. How we work spells the whole arrangement out.

If we add affiliate links

We may. Portable generators and the gear around them are bought online, and a commission on something you were going to buy anyway is a reasonable way to fund writing about it. If that happens, all of the following will be true before you can follow one:

• This page will say so, and it will say which retailer and which program.
• Every paid link will be marked rel="sponsored nofollow" and will open in a new tab, with a disclosure line next to the block it sits in. We will not hide paid links in body copy.
• We will link to categories, not products. A “best generator of 2026” list with prices and star ratings goes stale in a week, and most of the ones you will find were never tested by anybody. A search you can read yourself is more honest than a ranking we did not earn.
• No prices, no ratings, no “best” claims that we cannot keep current and cannot source.

Where manufacturer names appear in our articles it is to describe what installers in this region commonly carry, nothing more.
